The Q’eqchi’ Association Xch’ool Ixim presented its plan on August 28, 2024 to the Ministry of Education to develop the Q’eqchi’ Local Curriculum in 44 schools in Alta Verapaz. Among the agreements are the follow-up of the proposal from the Digebi and the Dideduc of Alta Verapaz, and the signing of a Letter of Understanding, as well as the definition of a work plan.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education Mrs. Deputy Minister of Bilingual and Intercultural Education, Licda Romelia Mo Isem; the Departmental Director of Education in Alta Verapaz, Lic. Aníbal Alfonso Juarez; and the Deputy Director of Digebi, Licda Marlen Oneida Tarton participated. On behalf of the Q’eqchi’ Association Xch’ool Ixim, the Executive Director, MSc. Fredy Oxom; Director of Education, Lic. Mario Quim; and the Curriculum Specialist, Dr. Domingo Yojcom; participated.

Once all permissions are granted, we will begin to hold curriculum development  workshops with elders, parents, teachers, and students from the 44 schools.
